SAN DIEGO (AP) — Newcomer Luis Arraez singled in pinch runner Tyler Wade with one out in the ninth inning and the San Diego Padres beat Los Angeles 2-1 on Friday night to end the Dodgers’ season-high seven-game winning streak.

Arraez was obtained in a trade with Miami last Saturday and was playing his first home game with the Padres. He singled to center field off Michael Grove (1-2) to bring in Wade and set off a wild celebration. Wade was pinch running for Luis Campusano, who hit a leadoff double to left.

“I’m wet,” Arraez said after having a cooler of water poured over him by Manny Machado.

“I just wanted to hit the ball,” Arraez said. “I just tried to hit it to the middle and he threw me the perfect pitch to hit.”

Arraez won the 2022 AL batting title with Minnesota and the 2023 NL batting crown with Miami.

He said getting a walk-off hit in his first home game with the Padres “was amazing. I’m excited, I’m happy.” He said his mother, wife and 5-year-old daughter were in the stands. “It’s amazing, especially for the fans. They support me in my first time here.”
